Thinking outside the box: The benefits of multidisciplinary collaboration

The North Carolina Science in the Mountains brings together the local Universities, government and business organizations in Western North Carolina and surrounding regions each year. Innovation has bloomed in this region as members of these organizations have merged techniques from multiple science and technology backgrounds to overcome discipline and resource boundaries. Thus, this year, 2013, the theme of the annual meeting is Thinking outside the box: The benefits of multidisciplinary collaboration, scheduled from April 11 – 12, 2013 at Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. Presentations will address some of the opportunities and successes gained from approaching research with multiple science and technology disciplines, as well as possible funding avenues and ways to enable the exchange of data or results. Faculty, students at graduate and undergraduate levels, and research scientists from biotechnology-based industries will help promote and maintain Western North Carolina's research advancement through conference participation. Registration opens February 1; there is no registration fee. Registration details, poster abstract submission and more information are available at https://www.signup4.net/Public/ap.aspx?EID=SCIE20E.
