Proposal Development Information for the National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in fields within NSF's mission. The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research. Each Fellowship consists of three years of support usable over a five-year period. For each year of support, NSF provides a stipend of $34,000 to the Fellow and a cost-of-education allowance of $12,000 to the degree-granting institution. Deadlines for applications are in October and depend on the applicant's Major Field of Study. See the attached infographic for more information.

Associate Professor of Chemistry & Fermentation Sciences, Dr. Jennifer Cecile, and Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Fermentation Sciences, Dr. Michael Reddish, share information about how to develop competitive proposals in this YouTube video (dates in the YouTube video are for last year - all new dates are noted in the attached infographic). Consulting appointments to review proposal components (e.g. Personal, Relevant Background and Future Goals Statement, and the Graduate Research Plan Statement) can be scheduled via Zoom with Dr. Cecile on Monday 3-5pm and Wednesday 10-11am and can be scheduled via her appointment calendar link - feel free to book two slots if you would like more than 15 minutes; or contact Dr. Reddish at reddishmj@appstate.edu to set up an appointment.
